Sudden Reassignments

Posted on Fri Dec 10th, 2021 @ 10:52pm by Commander Helena Pope & Lieutenant Anna Cohen PhD

Mission: Episode 4: A Failure To Communicate
Location: USS Cygnus | Engineering
Timeline: MD 01 | 23:10

Helena made her way along the corridor to main engineering. While her Anna weren't the closest she did consider the other officer a friend. She also knew that her and Angus had started seeing each other shortly before his transfer.

The double doors open and Helena stepped into engineering despite the late hour the pulsing blue of the warp core was mixed with chatter of various crews working on the last minutes details now that the ship was underway. Anna stood at the pool table, two PADDs in one hand while she entered data into the terminal with her other.

"Commander." She said looking up at the arrival of the XO, "Is there a problem ma'am?" She asked.

"No, no problem." She said, thankful that the late hour meant Engineering was much less busy than usual. "I just wanted to see how you are."

The Engineer looked up, confused for a split second. "Oh, yeah, I mean I'm alright." She started, "Of course my duties won't be affected." She said as if remembering who she was talking to.

Helena gave her a small smile, "I'm certainly not worried about your duties, I mean if you wanted the job the Chief's billet would be yours."

"I don't, for the record, while I appreciate the support of you and the Captain I'm still not interested in Chief." Anna replied with a smirk. "Maybe if I said I did Command would reassign me to another job."

Helena smiled, it seemed they had the one qualified engineer who had no desire to be Chief. "I know you and Angus we getting close, his reassignment came as a surprise, I had requested him be transferred to Cygnus when I came here. I objected to his transfer this time but I was over rulled. In terms of his career it's a good move, he'll likely be XO within two years, but I know it's difficult in Starfleet when you open yourself to those relationships and Command throws a wrench in it. Are you two going to try long distance?"

Anna shrugged, "I'm not sure, we had the whole, 'we'll stay in touch' conversation but it's hard in Starfleet, he's headed to the other side of the Federation, not like it's easy to slip a way for shoreleave, we'll have to see what happens."

Helena nodded, "Well if you want to talk my doors always open, or if you need some extra down time."

Anna laughed, "Down time isn't really my thing, at the best of time, and right now I don't need to sit in my quarters and stew about my feelings. I appreciate the offer though." She said with a smile.

Helena nodded, "Make sure to get some sleep though, acting or not I don't want my Chief Engineer falling asleep on the job." She joke, "Have a good night Anna."

"Good night Helena." The Engineer replied.
